Data maturity
How far your organisation can collect, quality-check, integrate, analyse and apply AI to data. Maturity is about reach and plumbing, not policy documents.
The five levels
The Data Maturity Pyramid™ runs from L1 (data collection) through L5 (AI-driven insights). You cannot skip a level: analytics on untrusted data is guesswork, and AI on a broken foundation is theatre.
- L1 · Data collection: data exists somewhere, often in silos
- L2 · Data quality: key metrics are defined and reconciled
- L3 · Data integration: systems talk; you can join customer, product and finance views
- L4 · Data analytics: self-serve reporting and repeatable analysis
- L5 · AI-driven insights: models and agents on governed, integrated data
Relationship to governance
Data governance answers whether you may and should use the data. Maturity answers whether you technically can. Most mid-market organisations we see are governed on paper but stuck at L2–L3 in practice.
